SAE J1349

Engine Power Test Code - Spark Ignition and Compression Ignition - Net Power Rating

Developed by committee: Engine Power Test Code

Annotation and contents

Source of this annotation and contents: SAE.

This SAE Standard has been adopted by SAE to specify:
  • a. A basis for net engine power rating
  • b. Reference inlet air and fuel supply test conditions
  • c. A method for correcting observed power to reference conditions
  • d. A method for determining net full load engine power with a dynamometer.

Rationale:
The need for changes to the standard is driven by the following: 1. The specifications for fuels need to be changed to allow the use of contemporary pump fuels. 2. The diesel correction factors have never been widely used, and they are no longer appropriate for most diesels with contemporary control systems. 3. The standards for instrumentation have been carried for decades without a true understanding of capability.
