SAE AS6077

Procedure for the determiantion of particulate contamination in Hydraulic Fluids by the Control Filter Gravimetric Procedure"

Developed by committee: A-6c1 Contamination And Filtration Committee

Annotation and contents

Source of this annotation and contents: SAE.

This SAE Aerospace Recommended Practice (ARP) describes a gravimetric method for the determination of particulate contaminant in hydraulic fluids by the control filter technique. With this method detectable contamination levels down to 0.2 mg per sample can be obtained with a standard deviation of ±0.1 mg.

Rationale:
ARP procedure 785 is very basic procedure and is widely used in the aero space industry for many applications, to estimate the contamaintion levels in fluid. Since there are so many new fluids in the market, compatibility of the a membrane and fluid and solvents requires more comprehensive treatment. Every lab has there own pet special techniques to reduce variability of the results. It needs to be documented. It is up for a 5 year review. There is enough editorial and technical changes are anticipate to incorporate to enhance the repeatability and usefulness of the of the test procedure in various specs and standards..
